U.D.O. - MISSION NO X (LP/NIGHT OF THE VINYL DEAD) For the first time on vinyl, this is a collection of Teutonic Heavy Metal from none other than former Accept-vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. Recorded and originally released -back then on CD- in 2005. Limited, hand numbered edition.
REIZEN - 3RD (CD/PSF) The third solo outing from Nerae member Reizen. This is a collection of wonderful psychedelic improvisational guitar drones.
WHISPERHEAD - 31000 (LP/WHISPERHEAD) Whisperhead is a Dutch metal duo with a serious twist. They consist of Sademaara and Shagra, with Sademaara composing as well as playing all the instruments, and Shagra writing the lyrics and taking care of the vocals. This release represents the first part of a trilogy entitled 'The Presage'. Recommended to fans of Wolves In The Throneroom, Ulver and Norwegian black metal in general.
JACK ALLETT/KALBAKKEN - RELAY I (7"/SMERALDINA-RIMA) The first release in the label's 'Relay' 7" series. The concept? For the A-side an artist is chosen by the Smeraldina-Rima crew, after which this artist decides who will appear on the B-side. This single features Allett, the finger picking whirlwind formerly known as Spoono. Kalbakken, with its shamanistic folk, takes care of a great flip. Includes drawings by Karel Wouters and graphic design by Levi Seeldraeyers. Very limited pressing of 200 copies.
60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES
IVY GREEN - IVY GREEN (CD/1977) Spectacular reissue of the first album by legendary Dutch punkers Ivy Green, originally released in '78 on Pogo Records/WEA. Includes two bonus tracks. Consider Ivy Green's debut album of equal importance for the Dutch punk scene as The Saints' 'I'm Stranded' album for the scene down-under.
ROBBIE BASHO - TWILIGHT PEAKS (LP-CD/SMERALDINA-RIMA) An excellent reissue of some of Basho's last recordings. This set was originally issued in 1984 on a tape label called The Art Of Relaxation. Mastering and liner notes by Glenn Jones (of Cul de Sac-fame), drawings by Wouter Vanhaelemeesch, graphic design by Levi Seeldraeyers. Includes two extra live tracks.
BADGER BELL BAND - FACELESS GANG (LP/HIGH ROLLER) Limited editions on black and coloured vinyl in heavy cardboard cover. This was quite an obscure act during the glorious N.W.O.B.H.M. era. They released two 7" singles, 'Rock the Vicar' in 1985 and the more popular 'Over The Wall' (as by Badger) a year later. However, it all started with a band called Noizegate. This collection features seven tracks in total.
AUTHORITIES - KUNG PAO AU GO-GO (LP-CD/GET HIP) A brand new studio album by the Stockton, California punk rock legends! Featuring a guest appearance by Joey 'Shithead' Keithley of DOA, this set was recorded in Vancouver, BC and produced by Brian Barr. Mixed by David Carswell (New Pornographers, Destroyer, the Evaporators).
STRANGE ATTRACTOR - MUTANT LOVE (LP/RED LOUNGE) Jeff from the Statues going solo, backed by a competent combo. This sounds way more dirty and garagey then Statues. Limited edition on coloured vinyl.
ELEPHANT MICAH - LOUDER THAN THOU (LP/PRODUCT OF PALMYRA) The latest album from underground folk mainstays Elephant Micah, a rotating-member band headed up by Joseph O'Connell. Bridging the minimalist rock and sonic experimentation of their early work for Time-Lag Records, 'Louder Than Thou' is the clearest statement yet of the Elephant Micah sound. The album is closely tied to the musical life of Bloomington, Indiana and the greater region. The musicians that contribute to the record are part of a longstanding and celebrated underground music scene in this college town, which harbours more punk and indie bands than anyone can count. Edition of 400 copies, including a free download.
MOONLESS - CALLING ALL DEMONS (LP-CD/DOOMENTIA) Moonless is a spectacular new stoner doom band from Copenhagen and 'Calling All Demons' is their impressive debut album.
PHARAOH - BURY THE LIGHT (LP/HIGH ROLLER) Nine heavy tracks, released on black and coloured vinyl. Includes A2-sized poster and comes in heavy gatefold sleeve.
ARC OF ASCENT - THE HIGHER KEY (LP/CLOSTRIDIUM) Heavy stoner psych rock from New Zealand, featuring Craig Williamson (Lamp Of The Universe). This is an excellent follow up to the well received album 'Circle Of The Sun'.
BR. GARM - THE 78TH MORNING TIDE (LP/DONTRUSTHERUIN) The first vinyl release on Big Blood's subsidiary Dontrustheruin is an album by Br. Garm, who's a member of Visitations. You may expect psychedelic trippings, apocalyptic country, a child's prayer, dark folk outings, a fuzzed out Gordon Lightfoot-cover and much more. Never a dull moment and super enjoyable! Cover artwork by Hillary Irons, printed on thick old style jackets, accompanied by a pamphlet with lyrics and chords for those who want to play along. Limited to 500 copies.
MIDNITE SNAXXX - MIDNITE SNAXXX (LP/RED LOUNGE) Limited edition on coloured vinyl of a cool s/t garage-punk album from an all female trio. Musically this sounds like a mixture of Real Kids and Big Star, but with a girly touch. Midnite Snaxxx features former members of Loudmouths, Bobbyteens, Trashwomen, Deadly Weapons, a.m.
VARIOUS - HEAD MUSIC (2LP/FRUITS DE MER) An intense head-trip (on coloured double vinyl) that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic German label Brain. Ash Ra Tempel, Can, Neu!, Popol Vuh, Kraftwerk and Amon Düül get covered by contemporary bands s.a. Bevis Frond, Earthling Society, Vibravoid, Dead Sea Apes, Electric Orange a.m.o.
VARIOUS - SORROW'S CHILDREN (LP/FRUITS DE MER) A sensational covers LP! All the tracks from the Pretty Things' legendary psychedelic rock opera album 'S.F. Sorrow' get covered by various contemporary artists. Includes The Luck of Eden Hall, Hi-Fiction Science, Earthling Society, King Penguin, Sky Picnic, The Loons, a.m.o. Also includes a live version of 'The Loneliest Person' by the Pretty Things themselves, dating from 2010.
ANDERS NILSSON - NIGHT GUITAR (CD/SOUND@ONE) With his stunning new masterpiece, 'Night Guitar', Anders Nilsson follows in the footsteps of John McLaughlin's 'My Goals Beyond' and Sonny Sharrock's 'Guitar'. The overarching themes here are nocturnal. Dream imagery, the hour of the wolf, self reflection and more act as common threads to carry the narrative from piece to piece, or scene to scene. A landmark album for solo electric guitar!
BLACK WIDOW - SEE'S THE LIGHT OF DAY (2LP+10"/BLACK WIDOW) Two platters of great stuff by the legendary Black Widow, dating from the '70s. The first LP offers 'Return To The Sabbath' (pre-Sacrifice) and the second one was recorded live in Milan, 1971. The 10" features four previously unreleased tracks with Kay Garrett on vocals.
CRYSTAL PHOENIX - CRYSTAL PHOENIX (LP/BLACK WIDOW) The 20th anniversary edition of Crystal Phoenix' mythical debut release. This release comes with the original cover and four previously unreleased tracks.
ELECTRIC LITANY - ENEMY (7"/INNER EAR) An interesting single from this Greek band. 'Enemy' functions as a warming up for their upcoming full length, which is expected after the summer.
HEX DISPENSERS - PARALLEL (7"/RED LOUNGE) This single offers a look inside the mind of Hex Dispensers' main man Alex Cuervo. When he was a teen, Alex was in an accident so horrible, it was considered a miracle that he got out nearly unharmed. But Alex Cuervo believes he died that day... If not here, then in a parallel universe.
NEKROFILTH/SPEEDWOLF - SPLIT 7" (7"/DOOMENTIA) A noteworthy single, shared by two uncompromising bans. Nekrofilth plays sleazy death metal scum punk and Speedwolf offers N.W.O.B.H.M.-fuelled heavy metal, powered by a hardcore-punk engine. Exclusive tracks!
PLAYGROUND NOISE - SWINGING LOWDOWN (7"/INNER EAR) A new single by an intriguing indie pop group from Greece. Playground Noise continues to monitor the lives of those who dance on the edge of life in defiance of the risk of falling.
POW WOWS - KILLING ME/NO. THIRTEEN (7"/GET HIP) Brooding psych-punk, infused with a touch of twang and a dash of r&b. The flipside of this single features a live-off-the-floor recording from the Toronto foursome, proving the point that less is indeed more!
60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES
LAFAYETTE AFRO ROCK BAND - RED MATCH BOX (LP/TOPOMIC) Previously unreleased killer heavy funk album from the highly rated Lafayette Afro Rock Band, a bunch of Americans who'd relocated to Paris and mixed that city's strong African music traditions with their own American funk and soul leanings. The result was an incredible sound that included lots of heavy percussion, fuzzy guitar, and the very cool "magic bag" sound that was half vocoder/half keyboard.
GERARDO MANUEL & EL HUMO - APOCALLYPSIS (CD/LION PRODUCTION) In the '60s Gerardo Manuel Rojas had played with some of Peru's top bands, including Los Daltons, Los Shain's and The (St. Thomas) Pepper Smelter. This work (1970) basically was recorded to test the equipment of the new recording studio of the country's leading El Virrey label. Recorded with other members from Los Shain's, 'Apocallypsis' basically is the first hard rock LP ever recorded in Peru. It features five original songs, plus cover versions of tracks by Grand Funk, Liquid Smoke, Jimi Hendrix, and ? & The Mysterians. Prior to the LP release, El Virrey put out two singles that are included here as bonus tracks. This special edition of a South American classic comes with a booklet full of photos, memorabilia, liner notes and lyrics.
DRYWATER - BACKBONE OF THE NATION (LP+7"/TIME-LAG) First ever reissue of this massively cool and hideously rare 1973 rural Pennsylvania private press jewel, originally released on the legendary RPC custom label in an edition of only 25(!) copies. The sound is essentially split between the two dominate modes of polarized male youth psyche: alternating moody, dejected, love scorned melancholy folkrock with wasted, howling, proto-punk garage fuzz brain fry... All together it's a totally sincere lost in time vibe, delivered with gobs of naive charm and executed with almost zero resources. Nevertheless -and as said- the result is fantastic. One time vinyl only pressing of 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl.
HAIR - PIECE (2LP/MAYFAIR MUSIC) Double LP reissue of a sheer legendary hard-psychedelic album from Denmark, 1970. Though this work was released by major EMI/Columbia, original copies of 'Piece' are extremely rare and expensive. This set includes the entire original album, all six songs from their singles, plus a previously unreleased (on vinyl) song as a bonus. The album and single tracks have all been remastered from the master tapes.
A 3 DANS LES WC - CONTAGION (LP+CD/SEVENTEEN) Reissue of a great album (1978) from the early French punk scene. This is punk rock with loads of distortion and keyboards, influenced by Velvet Underground, Devo and The Stranglers. At the beginning of the '80s they signed with CBS, changed their name to WC3 and put out the instantly banned single 'Captain Valium'. A must for anyone into early European punk history.
SKABBS - IDLE TREAT (LP/JACKPOT) A collection of never before issued recordings from 1977-78 Lawndale, California punks, The Skabbs. These guys concocted some truly outsider sounds, melding jagged Devo-esque rhythms with lightning-fast technical touches that predated the Minutemen by a few years. With the exception of being recorded by SST's producer/genius Spot, The Skabbs were considered too weird for the art crowd and they totally terrified the hippies. Sadly, the band was cut short in 1979 when songwriter and frontman Steven Joseph Salazar died at just 26 years old from a life-long heart condition. LP with mp3 download.
JOHN TCHICAI/HARTMUT GEERKEN/FAMOUDOU DON MOYÉ - WEST AFRICA TOUR, APRIL 1985 (4LP/SAGITTARIUS A-STAR) A very special 4LP in a cardboard box with booklet, on black vinyl. Limited edition of only 100 numbered copies, so be fast! All recordings available here for the first time. Experimental avant-jazz, recorded live in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, 1985.
SCARAB - ROLLING LIKE THUNDER (2CD/HIGH ROLLER)Among N.W.O.B.H.M. collectors, Scarab's one and only 7" single 'Poltergeist', released on Pharaoh Records in 1984, is a highly-regarded and much sought after item. But they made more recordings! So here is an awesome CD chock full of previously unheard recordings. Includes 24-page booklet and obi. (By the way, this band is not to be confused with the outfit of the same name who cut the single 'Rock Night' in 1981.)
SUBROUTINE, based in Amsterdam, is the latest label added to our distribution roster. Their releases (on CD and vinyl) include titles from interesting indie acts s.a. Space Siren, Rats On Rafts, S As In Assassins, Sugarettes, Neon Rainbows, Skipper, Vox Von Braun, AC Berkheimer, a.m.o. We'll keep you posted!
