NEW RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

DICK VOODOO - FIRST LP (LP/BORN BAD)  Debut album from a French electro-punk duo, slightly reminding of Suicide. Together they deliver fury of insane intensity.

NEATBEATS - DANCE ROOM RACKET (LP/SOUNDFLAT)  Japan's prime sixties inspired beat combo delivers one hell of a catchy album. Using vintage equipment only, these guys are referred to as "the Japanese Kaisers". Other comparisons include Peter Berry & The Shake Set and Star Club-era Beatles.

LA BAND DEL BRASILIANO - VOL. 1 (LP-CD/CINEDELIC)  Assisted by their like-minded friends of Calibro 35, this ensemble recorded a debut album that merges originals with reinterpretations of compositions by Morricone, Cipriani, De Angelis and others. The style is an upbeat and ironic crossover of genres, including easy listening, funk, porn groove, beat and sexy soundtracks. Very enjoyable music for sure!

CIRCLE - INCARNATION (CD/EKTRO)  The title of this work refers to a confusing exchange of band names, personel and ideas. Nowadays, the guys who used to be Circle operate under the moniker of Falcon. Circle however continue with a totally different line up, 'Incarnation' being the first result. The new (or current) Circle is firmly rooted in the country's death metal scene, though you never know what that means for the record they make. But we can tell you, this is a truly heavy and hypnotic album!

FALCON - FRONTIER (CD/EKTRO)  The house of Circle nowadays has different lodgers. The original Circle members found themselves a new nest and took on the identity of Falcon. Including their latest hit 'Beer And Ribs', the guys present an offering of laser-beamed AOR and soft rock, with titles ('Miami Tits', 'Vegas Sundown', 'Leather Seat') that should appeal to a wide audience. Even your square cousin will enjoy this!

SOUND & FURY - PULSACION (CD/EKTRO)  One of the most creative, distinctive and musically powerful small-big-bands in today's music, Finland's Sound & Fury, released an itriguing CD on Ektro. It contains never before recorded compositions by the late great Finnish composer/drummer Edward Vesala. This music takes the listener on a gripping musical adventure, during which he (or she) has encounters with jazz, classical, rock, folk, tango and more.

JAZZ A LA MODE TRIO - LESS IS MORE (CD/CINEDELIC)  Here's an energetic trio, featuring prominent musicians from the Italian jazz scene. With 'Less Is More' they offer a powerful blend of funk, soul, bossa and jazz with a very catchy and groovy sound, inspired by the Blue Note records of the 1950s and '60s.

OSCAR ROCCHI QUARTET - JAZZ PROGESSION (CD/CINEDELIC)  A brilliant set with a real hip '60s feel overall. The group's got a sound that's definitely on the sharper side of the Italian jazz spectrum. Very enjoyable stuff!

DANIELE BALDELLI - BACK TO MY FUNKY SIDE (CD/CINEDELIC)  Known for his cosmic 'disco' style, here's a DJ/producer who is considered a major innovator of the Italo disco scene. As the title implies, on this album he lives out his unconditional love for funky grooves.

DEATH IN JUNE - LIVE IN WIEN 2011 (2CD/NEROZ)  A double-CD set offering up a total of 33 tracks, recorded at a live gig in Vienna.

AV - MORT A VEGAS (12"/DESIRE)  'Mort à Vegas' is the new 12-inch EP from Adrien Viot a.k.a. AV, who's one of the finest exponents from the new 'Frenchy but chic' electronic pop scene. Expect an elegant crooner voice, melodic synths and tasteful guitars, and an irresistible urge to enter the dancefloor. Edition of 500, including download.

KING SALAMI & THE CUMBERLAND THREE - CAMEL HOP (7"/SOUNDFLAT)  A surprising 7-incher with oriental flavours from London's R&B-punk sensations! Now get that belly dancing as you party along on a bed of nails!

HOLLYBERRIES - I WANNA GO SURFIN' WITH SANTA (7"/FREAKBEAT)  A new pressing of an awesome seasonal 7-inch, featuring the pet recording project of Kip Brown, guitarist and founding member of L.A.s ground breaking '70s punk rock band Shock! (Known from their classic tune 'This Generation's On Vacation'). Four tracks, pressed on 'surf foam blue' coloured vinyl.

JEFF HERSHEY & THE HEARTBEATS - SANTA CLAUS IS A MONSTER (7"/SOUNDFLAT)  Have yourself a spooky, soulful, rock'n'roll x-mas with this super enjoyable release from Jeff Hershey & The Heartbeats.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

AXIS - AXIS (LP/O-MUSIC)  This s/t album is a superb release from a Greek prog band who spent time in France. You'll hear a compelling -and at times complex- mixture of psych-pop, prog, jazz, bits of hardrock and more, incorporating fuzz guitars as well as mellotrons. A wonderful reissue!

HEAVY CRUISER - LUCKY DOG (LP/O-MUSIC)  Reissue of a '72 album featuring Canadian pre-heavy metal legend Neil Merryweather and musicians of Mama Lion. Musically we're talking high quality heavy-hard-psych with all the right moves.

MORSE CODE TRANSMISSION - MORSE CODE TRANSMISSION (2LP/O-MUSIC)  The second album ('72) by this excellent progressive rock band from Quebeck sees a welcome reissue. On offer is organ driven rock that vaguely reminds of f.i. Atomic Rooster and Frumpy.

EXPECTED RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

DEVILLE - COME HEAVY SLEEP (LP/HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS)  Another fine Swedish rock band in the vein Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Soundgarden. This release comprises eleven tracks, available on red, yellow and marbled vinyl.

KRAUTZONE - KOSMISCHE RITUALE (LP/SULATRON)  Three long, out-there tracks from a project featuring members of Electric Moon, Zone Six, The Pancakes... Their music sounds like an improvised take on Kraut and Kosmische music from the '70s, highlighted by subdued, shamanic drums and flurry psychedelic synthesizers.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

COCKNEY REJECTS - UNHEARD REJECTS 1979-1981 (LP/BEAT GENERATION)  Essential for the band's many fans, this is a collection of early demo recordings from the Hammers-supportin' street punk unit. Limited edition of 500 copies.

LOS PUNK ROCKERS - LOS EXITOS DE SEX PISTOLS (LP/NEVADA)  A reissue of one of the coolest punxploitation LP's that exists. Here are all the songs of the classic Pistols LP 'Never Mind The Bollocks', done in Spanish and in quite an unusual way. According to rumours, members of the fairly well known band Asfalto were involved in this '79 delivery.

AUSWEIS - ANTHOLOGIE 1982-1988 (2CD/INFRASTITION)  An essential title for fans of early '80s French cold wave, this double-CD collcts all the releases from this highly rated underound act. All tracks are remasterd and appear on CD for the first time!

DON PEAKE - THE HILLS HAVE EYES O.S.T. (LP/ONE WAY STATIC)  A great reissue of a historic soundtrack, created by a highly respected musician. Don Peake did sessionwork with a.o. Phil Spector and for Motown, and he can be heard (often as guitarist) on many hits and other famous recordings.  For the mid '70s movie 'The Hills Have Eyes' he composed a truly eerie experimental score that features both conventional instruments and natural devices. To give an example, the latter include bones and teeth from necklaces worn by the actors . Fascinating!

BLOW MIND - THEY'RE COMING (7"/KAMELEON)  On 7-inch, here's a surprising reissue of a monster rarity. Blow Mind is a totally obscure and utterly mysterious band of which as good as nothing is know. What we do know however, is that in 1970 that they recorded this superb garage-psych offering!

NEWS

KAMELEON RECORDS is about to release a couple of interesting titles featuring music from Polish prog/fusion/art-rock legends SKALDOWIE, who were active from late '60s til' the late '90s. The plans include the LP 'Podroz Magiczna (1973-1978)', offering unreleased material, and '70s Progressive German Sessions'.The upcoming CD's from this band are 'Pastoralki' (rare tracks from '68-'92) and a reissue of their secon dalbum, a pop-psych masterpiece from '68, plus lots of bonus material.

READING

UGLY THINGS - ISSUE #36 (MAG/UGLY THINGS)  The latest issue features hours and hours of reading pleasure and useful info for the fans of '60s and early '70s music. Top of the bill is a brain-searing interview with Andrew Loog Oldham, the brilliant '60s svengali of Immediate Records and Rolling Stones infamy. There's also plenty to find out about Dutch bands The Motions and The Dream, the elusive Julian Covey a.k.a. Philamore Lincoln, Maitreya Kali (the mysterious figure responsible for the loner psych mega-rarities 'Apache' and 'Inca'), and much, much more. Enjoy!
