NEW RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

HELL'S DOMAIN - HELL'S DOMAIN (LP/NIGHT OF THE VINYL DEAD)  The first ever vinyl edition of this respected thrash metal offering. The line-up of Hell's Domain includes ex-members of well known Danish bands s.a. Exmortem, Hatesphere, Grope, Crionic and Artillery. Limited hand-numbered edition!

NIGHT SINS - TO LONDON OR THE LAKE (LP/AVANT!)  The follow up to 2012's 'New Grave'. This is another convincing album, in which one can hear traces of a.o. Gary Numan's catchy synth leads, Siouxsie's vocal melodies, and driving guitar work in the vein of The Mission and The Cult. Night Sins is based in Philadelphia.

OCTOPUS RIDE - OCTOPUS RIDE (LP/REV-VEGA)  The sound of crickets, vibrating sex toys, the voices of Donald Sutherland and Sean Penn, and a bundle of exotic instruments come together bewitchingly on the self-titled debut release from Swedish psychedelic band Octopus Ride. The LP was no less than 11 years in the making and the intriguing result kinda sounds like Barrett meets Kraut meets shoegaze... Released on 180-gram vinyl and includes a download code and an embroidered patch.

TECHNICOLOR POETS - ALL THAT IS SOLID (LP/KOMMUN2)  This is the third release by Sweden's Technicolor Poets, and their best by far. No stone has been left unturned in their pursuit of the finest and most authentic sounding psychedelic '60s sound. Limited editions on black and coloured vinyl.

PACIFIC 231 & INSTINCT PRIMAL - TESSELLATION (CD/MENTAL ULCER FORGES)  'Tessellation' combines elements of ambient, field recordings and heavy electronics. The release amalgamates analogue synthesizers with digital processing, creating a whirlwind of stereophonic images as tones tessellate with each other forming an unexpected abstract sound geometry. Created in Ireland and Czech Republic, 2011-2012.

CIRCLE - INCARNATION (LP/EKTRO)  In last week's Spot Light you could already read all about the CD-edition of this noteworthy new Circle title. Now it's alo available on vinyl.

FALCON - FRONTIER (LP/EKTRO)  Yesterday they were Circle, now they are Falcon, and who knows what tomorrow brings. What matters right now is that the album also appears on LP-format!

JENNY DON'T & THE SPURS - NO GOOD/YOU WIN AGAIN (7"/TOMBSTONE)  Here we have a super enjoyable country 7-inch by Portland's Jenny Don't (Don't), Kelly Halliburton (Pierced Arrows, Problems) and Sam Henry (The Wipers, The Rats, Don't). Their debut release features a rockin' country tune about tough love and death on the A-side, and a weepy Hank Williams cover on the flip. Another great DIY record from the Tombstone label. Too tough to die indeed.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

KSIEZYC - KSIEZYC (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)  This is a vinyl reissue of an important work from the Polish '90s scene. The music is medieval, rooted in the Slavic tradition and incorporates elements of minimalism and 20th century vocal experiments. Beautiful and unique! This title originally appeared on 10-inch, but now you get it on 12-inch, for maximum sound quality. Also includes renewed artwork and lyrics translated to English.

POUL GERNES - UNTITLED (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)  An extraordinary release of the only known recordings (1969) by Danish avant-garde artist Poul Gernes. The music sounds like an informal quasi-drone work, which, along with the ambient elements and domestic interference, comes across as a snapshot of the recording itself, a sonic Polaroid... Poul Gernes (1925-1996) was one of the central figures in the world of ground breeaking Danish art during the latter half of the 20th century. His experimental art is highly regarded on an international level.

VARIOUS - SALAM ALAY (LP/WORLDWILD)  'The Sound Of Armenian Diaspora 1969-79'. This unique selection will allow you to get the feel of the captivating atmosphere that pervades Armenian music through its hypnotic solos, its frantic rhythms and its incredibly intense vocals. Apart from a track by the rather well known John Berberian, these recordings now get reissued for the first time.

OSANNA - TEMPO (2DVD+BOOK/BLACK WIDOW)  Dedicated to the highly regarded Italian prog band Osanna, this is an awesome release, consisting of a double DVD and a lavish 40-page book. The set uncovers the history of the band, and includes footage, mucic and pictures from the '70s as well as more recently.

TOBIAS PETTERSON - AMON DÜÜL II AND THE BIRTH OF KRAUT (BOOK)  A pocket sized book, 160 pages and presented with a hard cover. Written in English and featuring many b&w photos, it's of interest to all fans of the band as well as Kraut afficinados in general.

EXPECTED RELEASES

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

NUNCHUKKA SUPERFLY - OPEN YOUR EYES TO SMOKE (LP-CD/CITADEL)  Prepare thyself for an aural adventure with Hard-Ons offshoot Nunchukka Superfly. Encompassing the best elements of experimental rock, psychedelia, jazz, avant-garde, new-wave and pure pop, Ray and Blackie and their companions meander into the trippy musical wonderland that is 'Open Your Eyes To Smoke'.

DEATH AND VANILLA - EP (LP/HANDS IN THE DARK)  Released in celebration of Hands In The Dark's third anniversary (January 2014), this is a vinyl reissue of the label's very first title. Extanded with three bonus tracks, this work showcases the Swedish duo's passion for zombie and sci-fi films, Krautrock, analogue synths and vintage equipment. Includes new artwork and a poster.

SHERIFF LINDO - AFTERSHOCK DUBS (LP/EM)  Here's the first new album release in 25 years from Australia's Sheriff Lindo, dubmaster of the Southern Hemisphere. His 'Ten Dubs That Shook The World', released in 1988, has been growing in stature since its release. This work, recorded between 1990 and 2005, can be seen as a logical follow up. All tracks feature the experience-forged Dub sense of the Sheriff. More than a quarter-century of love, knowledge and soul-science has been distilled here. Don't miss it.

GRAHAM LAMBKIN - MILLOWS (CD+BOOK/PENULTIMATE PRESS)  The third release in a series of publications focussing on the art of Graham Lambkin, following the sold out titles 'Dumb Answer To Miracles' and 'Dripping Junk'. 'Millows' brings together two previously unpublished works, both dating from 2004, in a full colour hardcover book with a factory pressed CD (20 minutes running time). This is a limited edition of 500 copies. Lambkin is an ex-member of The Shadow Ring. His pedigree includes folk, noise, cracked electronics, and surrealist poetry.

60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES

THOMAS EDISUN'S ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB BAND - THE RED DAY ALBUM (CD/GEARFAB)  Wow!! A totally unreleased album from those Louisiana darlings that released an ultra-rare 7-inch in early 1967 on the Tamm label. This 1967 album was recorded around the time 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' was released and its influence on this pop/psych classic is quite evident. Presented in a beautiful 4-page digipack.

DENNIS JOHNSON - NOVEMBER (4CD/PENULTIMATE PRESS)  Reconstructed and rescued from obscurity, this 4CD release offers the first recording of Dennis Johnson's 5-hour minimalist masterpiece, 'November' is a historically significant and thoroughly engaging work.

MAD - EYE BALL/I HATE MUSIC (7"/1977)  Reissue of a classic single by the legendary 1970s New York horror-punk/HC band around make-up artist Screaming Mad George.

  MAD - FRIED EGG/HELL/DISGUSTING (7"/1977)  And here's another reissued 7-inch from these NYC-based '70s horror punks.
