Recorded in a British church and an Albuquerque dance studio, Darkness At Noon is the musical culmination of Barnes' past year spent collecting instruments and ethnographies while living in England, Prague, and New Mexico. An eclectic and orchestral trip through Romanian gypsy traditions, klezmer, mariachi, early American folk, modern composition, and pop with contributions coming from trumpeter DAN CLUCAS (HENRY GRIMES, LOVE), tuba player MARK WEAVER (ANTHONY BRAXTON), HEATHER TROST (vocals, violin,
piano), JEFF MANGUM (NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL), and Barnes' own mother, who plays the harp.
