PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

COSMIC LETDOWN - PUSTOID (LP/CLOSTRIDIUM)

Far away and high. That's where the Cosmic Letdown band delivers us when playing this wonderful album. They come from Cheboksary, Russia, a city on the bank of the Volga river. Young and fresh, Cosmic Letdown do not hesitate to unite good "old" psychedelia with their own breath in music. The main theme on the album is emptiness. It is around us, it's inside us as well. If you feel this, you easily change your mind. What happens, where we are from, what we are thinking and struggling for, all that stuff makes no sense then. But don't expect to be disappointed. This is a really cool album. Sheer adventure, each composition continues the previous one and and unveils a new dimension. The new strange world is here for you, no door to open Just step inside, and feel an approaching tsunami. (gbumps.blog). Comes with A2 poster, sticker and band-photo-card. Limited to 200 handnumbered copies.

GIOBIA/THE COSMIC DEAD - (BLACK) THE INTERGALACTIC CONNECTION (LP/HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS)

'EXPLORING THE SIDERAL REMOTE HYPERSPACE'- A split album that came from deep deep space!!! Here Giöbia meets The Cosmic Dead, two of the best modern space-rock bands you can find. The Italian quartet come with 3 incredible songs, while the Scottish guys deliver a 19 minute long suite. This piece of psychedelic journey is a travel inside the universe, 4 tracks full of heavy psych and space rock riffs that will bring you into a psychedelic vortex with no way out! A must-have for all the space travelers. Fans of Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, UFO and Gong will be more than enthusiastic... It's a Space Ritual journey!!

PERSONA - SOM (LP/BLACK SWEAT)

What is the object with the most sensational magical and alchemical properties, if not glass? A permeable membrane that filters the real through the unconscious, an access portal with divinatory and therapeutic qualities, the glass has always been seen as the guardian of daring allegories and symbols. Aware of this, the artist Roberto Campadello conceived 'The Game Of Persona', in the context of an installation for the XII Biennale of Sao Paolo in 1973. Discovering the visual properties of gilded glass, he investigated the effects of the overlay of images, a mysterious moment of transparency in which two single people melt into the reflection of the image, creating a single fantastic person. Thus, his "Casa Dourada", also became the space for "Intro-nautical Journeys": meditations and cosmic dances. The history of this LP (originally published in a 10" box set in 1975) starts right to support those collective initiation sessions. Each track is inspired by an I Ching element (Mountain, Heaven, Earth, Water, Lake, Wind) which represented a primary source of inspiration for Campadello. The dreamlike and occult sound not only suggest the atmosphere of that experience but still reveal the echoes of the best season of the Brazilian rock and Tropicalismo. The music has been composed and played by Roberto Campadello and the Brazilian super-star guitarist Luis Carlini, the leader of Rita Lee's band Tutti Frutti. Fuzz guitars, dirty percussion, Echoplex delays, are the perfect elements for the final trip into your own consciousness. The edition comes with two unreleased tracks, an amazing booklet and the poster. Co-produced with Nada Nada Discos.

SHUKO NO OMIT - HIMITSU NO KAIKOROKU (LP/AN'ARCHIVES)

Edition of 285 copies, comes in a silk-3 panel foldout jacket with obi (green, tan, yellow), inserts and a postcard. Liner notes by Patrick O'Brien. Shuko No Omit is a trio of Yonju Miyaoka on guitars and vocals, Yuya Oishi on drums, and Taiju Sugimori on bass: a classic framework for a rock band, and yet... Led by Yonju Miyaoka, a young prolific musician from Osaka who lives with schizophrenia, Shuko No Omit could have found a home in the P.S.F. records catalogue curated by the late Hideo Ikeezumi, sitting alongside Go Hirano, Tori Kudo, Chie Mukai/Ché Shizu, and Kousokuya. Yonju Miyaoka's music seems haunted by the psychedelic rock of the late seventies, by its electric, solitary ghost minstrels, perhaps also inhabited by the impulsive riffs of no-wave. His voice can sound slightly out of tune to the western ear, on the edge, and maybe this is what makes it so terribly moving. His guitar seems to be soaked in the same acid as poured out by the amplifiers of Keiji Haino or Takashi Mizutani, a mercurial gra in, a wild and inhabited psychedelia. The compositions crawl towards their ends in a reptilian, winding way, in a mud of saturation and distortion, almost overlaying like tracing paper sheets, in a disordered manner. These six tracks evoke inner collapse, loss, expectations and oblivion. Like his elders, Miyaoka shows a nonchalant, almost dilettantish way of building songs, preferring a chipped body, the trace of a conundrum disorder, to schoolboy academic perfection. This album is a long improvisation with a punctured, dismembered body, thrown in here like a bucket full of viscera, and reassembled in an alternate fashion. Miyaoka lies there, naked.

GEBARVATERLI - IM TAL DER EMMEN (CD/LONGHAIR)

This is the first official reissue of this extremely rare album, originally released in 1978 on the Brutkasten label. A very varied fusion album, 'Im Tal Der Emmen' blends Embryo and Zappa/Mothers like rock and jazz mixtures, with a rich instrumental palette, full of solos and invention. Mostly it intended to sound like an instrumental Out Of Focus (Freeman Brothers in 'The Crack In The Cosmic Egg'). The album has this charming kraut/fusion style. The sextet line-up resulted in a very rich sound with technical drumming, smooth instrumental interactions and loose executions on flute, guitars and organ, not to mention the scratching sax soloing of Mandi Riedelbauch (who also played on Marsupilami's 'Arena' album from 1971). Moreover there are slight psychedelic underlines over a jazzy attitude, typical of the kraut rock stylings, featuring steady but frenetic rhythmic parts over extended instrumental solos. The band had however a good sense of melody to support their jazzy style with melodic trombones and some delicate flute lines in the more mellow segments. Every track in here seems to have its own hero, no matter if it's the keyboardist, the flutist or the sax player. They do remind of classic acts such as Kraan and Embryo pretty often with a touch of Supersister in the furious interplays. Interesting and at moments fascinating kraut fusion with decent interplays and plenty of well-performed solos. Recommended both to krautrock and jazz/fusion fans (Apps79, Progarchives reviewer). The two live bonus tracks on the CD released by the band, total over 25 minutes, and are very similar to the album itself, these tracks are stretched out with more room given for solo improvisation. But the melodic core of the song is never lost. Comes with 24-page booklet with bandstory, many photos and other memorabilia. The music was newly remastered! Don't miss this highly sought after but extremely rare album, it's a krautrock/jazzrock highlight.

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

HURRICANES - KEEP ON PUSHING TIL THE END (7"/SPINOUT NUGGETS)

The Hurricanes are a loud mod garage band, bringing the sound of '66 to now! Fusing power pop, '60s garage, mod revival and boss British beat, these four gents have been around the block, starting out playing covers as their forefathers did, inevitably leading them on to writing, recording and performing their very own material. Side A's 'Keep On Pushing Til The End' is a song of optimism, and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; something much needed in these times of trouble. Firing on all four from the start, with a catchy chorus that'll have you singing along (and imprinting your mind for the rest of the day), could this be the best from the band so far? Side B's 'Take A Ride Tonight (Organ Mix)' is an organ-added version of the album opening favourite of the same name. Don't expect smooth polished studio efforts here; feedback squeals, amp hums, drums pound and the edges of distortion are all deliberate - this is the sound of The Hurricanes!

LADY BANANA - THE SUN GOES UP, AND THEN DOWN (7"/PURE LUST)

Minimalist punk-rockers Lady Banana from Gothenburg, Sweden, release a four-track 7" EP. The duo added some organ from the ranks of Dirty Burger. Three self-composed tracks and a cover version from Big Black. Limited to 300 copies.

VERAS - SPACEMAN (7"/SPINOUT NUGGETS)

On The Veras third release you get three tracks, with Side A firing up with title track 'Spaceman', which pounds through, fusing all your favourite sounds into almost three and a half minutes of fun. Side B hosts both 'In My Mind' (first time on vinyl since its first outing on the 'Sevens & Nines' CD EP) and 'Way Down South', a ragtime offering proving that The Veras are full of many surprises. This is the sound of the future, with the past and the present in mind!

GROOVY, PAUL -& THE POP ART EXPERIENCE- - THE BLUES BUS APPRECIATION SOCIETY (10") (10"/DETOUR)

Exploding from the Portsmouth music scene in 1984, Paul Groovy & The Pop Art Experience set the South Coast ablaze, mixing their love of '60s garage and '70s punk into a heady maelstrom of fuzz and feedback. They toured with the TV Personalities, The Cannibals, The Prisoners, Mighty Lemon Drops, Shop Assistants and The Primitives. The songs on this limited edition were first released as a cassette album called 'Let's Crash The Blue Bus' on Bite Back Records in 1986.

LUGOLA - YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL (CD/STEINKLANG)

Lugola is a noise project from Poland that began in 2012. Since the very beginning the solo work of Michal 'Neithan' Kielbasa is a combination of noise, power electronics, drone and dark ambient. Lugola live performances are partially improvised free-form sonic assaults, physically and emotionally intense. Visuals are often used. There are no limits. There is no future. 'You Are Not Special' is a return to the project's roots and is so far Lugola's most radical and extreme record. This album is an assault on your senses, an almost physical show of nihilism and hate, a channel for all negative thoughts and emotions. Taking its musical cues from classic harsh noise, power electronics and death industrial, it breaks all kinds of limitations without any interest in the listener's comfort. Edition of 100 copies. For fans of Whitehouse, Brighter Death Now, Grunt, Slogun, Con-Dom.

SPK - SPK DOKUMENT: RECORDINGS 1979-1983 (7CD) (CD/VINYL ON DEMAND)

By 1983 the band was joined by artists such as Sinan Revell, Brian 'Lustmord' Williams, John Murphy, Karel Van Bergen, Mike Wilkins and James Pinker. SPK's early era (from 1978 to mid-1983) with releases such as 'Information Overload Unit' and 'Leichenschrei' can without a doubt be considered as ground-breaking and protagonistic for then emerging industrial music movement. This CD set combines all of the band's early works and the band's history prior to Graeme Revell signing to WEA, taking the band's musical output in a more commercial direction. KIKO KIDS JAZZ - TANGANYIKA NA UHURU (LP/MISSISSIPPI)

Gorgeous and hypnotic Tanzanian dance music. Though they were one of Tanzania's most beloved and innovative bands in the heady years leading up to the nation's independence, Kiko Kids Jazz have somehow never had a full-length record released. Electric, tremoloed mandolin snakes through upbeat dance numbers, the poetic strains of Arabic and Taraab music, the rhythms of central Tanzania, and the mellow sway of the Swahili coast. Mississippi worked with bandleader Salim Zahoro on this release, but unfortunately he passed away last month at age 85. They dedicate this album to him, and they know he was proud to have it released for new audiences.
