Repress. Jade Warrior was one of the most original and unusual progressive rock bands to come from Britain in the early 70's. They combined strong ethnic influences (mostly from Chinese/Japanese culture) with progressive rock that ranged from heavy, flute-driven Tull-like riffs to peaceful and atmospheric parts. The main musicians in the band were Tony Duhig on guitar and Jon Field, who contributed with flute and lots of ethnic percussion. A unique and strong debut that clearly showcased what an original and creative band Jade Warrior was, now again on the legendary Akarma label, on vinyl.

WARHORSE - WARHORSE (2LP)

WARHORSE - WARHORSE (2LP)

Repress! Nick Simper, formerly of Deep Purple broke away from the rock legends and started a band of his own. This is very good music, surprisingly so because of the fact that many spin-off groups fail miserably, and then again others make musical history, albeit very few. ... read more »

BUFFALO (AUSTRALIA) - VOLCANIC ROCK

BUFFALO (AUSTRALIA) - VOLCANIC ROCK

Repress! Buffalo were easily Australia's heaviest band in the beginning of the '70s. Less than a year after recording their impressive debut, these Australian hard rockers were back with more of that same frenzied, guitar-heavy rock that was making them living legends not ... read more »

QUATERMASS - QUATERMASS (2LP/IT)

Repress. Quartermass made one self-titled album in 1970 and that was the end of them. Its a shame that they came and went so fast. They could have been very popular with the proper management and backing, but it was not meant to be. This group was a power prog-rock trio ... read more »

DR. Z - THREE PARTS TO MY SOUL

DR. Z - THREE PARTS TO MY SOUL

Originally released on Vertigo in 1971 this keyboard dominated progressive heavy monster is a concept album about human nature and is the rarest album on the label. Sparse instrumentation throughout is played with such conviction it makes it difficult to wonder why the ... read more »

SPRING - SPRING (2LP)

SPRING - SPRING (2LP)

Repress! Here it's difficult not to run out of superlatives, as this sole album of a bunch of relative unknowns beats almost everything in the UK progressive field. Side one is a sheer delight with natural, yet deeply moving melodies over a background of lavish but tasteful ... read more »

RAW MATERIAL - TIME IS... (IT)

Raw Material was born in the college days of Colin Catt (vocals, keyboards) and Phil Gunn (bass, acoustic guitar). In 1970 Dave Greene (guitars), Paul Young (percussion) and Michael Fletcher (saxophone, flute and vocals) would join them to complete the line up. In 1971 the ... read more »
