Chicago's only blues-funk family band with an eightyear-old drummer (?) finally gets their due in this elaborate 3x45 box set. Stationed on Chicago's west side, between 1965-1972 the Fisher brothers worked their novelty act at any club that was willing to bend the city's stiff liquor laws. Three 45s were cut for their homespun Fised and Fished labels, with the third
featuring the first known recordings of notorious bluesman Johnny Dollar. Chock full of photos stripped from family photo albums, the 12 page booklet tells the complete Soundmaster story, from their earliest days backing J.B. Hutto to Little Ed's final snare cracks for Southside Movement. Housed in a tipped-on 7" box, the set sets a new standard for funk 45s.
Track list:
"Stuggling For Survival" B/W "Its A Dream"
"The Ghetto Grind" B/W "Petite Soul"
"Your Love Has Got Me" B/W "Your Love Has Got Me (Inst.)".

NOMBRES, LOS - LOS NOMBRES

One part War, two parts Santana, a dash of Motown, immersed in a rich Puerto Rican stock, the Nombres were the undisputed kings of Northern Ohio's rust-belt barrios. Following successive explosions of brown-eyed and latin soul in Los Angeles and New York in the mid and late ... read more »

NOTATIONS - STILL HERE: 1967-1973

COWELL, JEFF - LUCKY STRIKES & LIQUID GOLD

Ten road-weary tales from the wrong side of outlaw country. Jeff Cowell may have huffed the same narcotic air as Townes Van Zandt and David Allan Coe, but hunkered far from the Nashville city limits, nary a Cash or Paycheck would drunkenly slur through his tunes. Recorded ... read more »

SUDDEN, NIKKI -& THE JACOBITES- - TEXAS

'Texas', Sudden's 1986 solo debut for Creation Records, blasted through the saccharin for a damaged and masterful invocation at the imperfect alters of Chilton and Bolan, sonic influences the Brit bore proudly on his velvet sleeve throughout the course of his polarizing ... read more »

SUDDEN, NIKKI -& DAVE KUSWORTH- - JACOBITES

Dual guitars announce 'Big Store' and 1984's 'Jacobites', originally on Glass Records, the first official appearance of Nikki Sudden and Dave Kusworth under that imprimatur -and its direct allusion to British royal lineage of yesteryear. The matching LP trafficked in ... read more »

HAPPY RHODES - ECTOTROPHIA

The first authoritative compilation of American dream pop artist Happy Rhodes, whose singular songwriting and four-octave vocal range emanated from the pastoral confines of upstate New York in the 1980s. Her melding of classical music influences with synthesizer and ... read more »
