NICE PRICE CD. One of the most controversial books of the twentieth century, 'Lolita', was first published in 1955 in France after two years of rejection slips. It was eventually published in America in 1958 following its success and notoriety in Europe and repeated its success. In 1962 director Stanley Kubrick assembled an all-star cast of James Mason, Shelley Winters, Peter Sellers and Sue Lyon for a film adaptation, with Bob Harris and Nelson Riddle writing the music for the film. Nelson Riddle was no stranger to theme work, having composed the themes to f.i. 'The Untouchables', 'Route 66' and 'Batman', yet 'Lolita' would remain one of the most demanding film scores he undertook.

Also available: LOLITA O.S.T. (LP).

RIDDLE, NELSON -& BOB HARRIS- - LOLITA O.S.T.

This is the deluxe gatefold 180 gram vinyl edition of his 1962 score for Stanley Kubrick's classic movie. Including "Lolita ya ya", a maddingly vapid and catchy track with nonsense vocals, simultaneously a vicious and a good-humoured parody of the kitchiest ... read more »

FURY, BILLY - THE SOUND OF FURY

Although a relatively minor chart hit, peaking at #18 in 1960, 'The Sound Of Fury' is now regarded as the best Rock & Roll album to come out of Englands original beat boom of the late 1950s. Entirely written by Billy (several of the tracks carry the pseudonym Wilbur ... read more »

VENTURES - PLAY TELSTAR AND THE LONELY BULL

NICE PRICE CD! Most of the VENTURES' albums picked a theme, be it colours, dance moves or surfing and milked it for all it was worth. One of the exceptions was 'Play Telstar And The Lonely Bull', which was a collection of cover versions of other hits. Kicking off with ... read more »

SHERIDAN, TONY - MY BONNIE

A cool NICE PRICE CD-comp featuring recordings of Tony Sheridan backed by the Beat Brothers, a.k.a. the embryonic Beatles! These guys shook Hamburg during the very early '60s and the rest is history!

BAEZ, JOAN - JOAN BAEZ

Although offered a recording contract with the major label Columbia, Joan opted to sign with the independent Vanguard label, ostensibly to retain artistic licence. Recorded over the course of four days in a ballroom of a hotel in New York, her debut album is noticeable for ... read more »

VARIOUS - GO, JOHNNY, GO! O.S.T.

To describe this album as a soundtrack is something of a misnomer, since it was not for sale at the time the film was originally released, in 1959. Copies were produced for the benefit of radio and promotion people, but no commercial copies were ever made available to the ... read more »
