The debut album from the Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander, sounding somewhere between exotica and experiment. They work with intricately stacked percussion, dubwise bass and a rich harmonic tapestry of processed voices, keys, harp, vibraphone, guitar, woodwind, strings and synthesiser. Every sound was re-sampled to the tenth degree, then subjected to subtle automation and rigorously fine-tuned over a period of many months. From the mesmerised pastoral drift of 'Anger Sees Red' and 'Dwelling By The Meadow' to agitated arabesques like 'The Physical Body' and the self-titled 'Dalhous', the resulting pieces explore dreamlike but treacherous terrain. Eleven questions in a world of blue.

Also available: AN AMBASSADOR FOR LAING (LP).

SECRET BOYFRIEND - MEMORY CARE UNIT

SECRET BOYFRIEND - MEMORY CARE UNIT

Eschewing the cryptic and compact song-sketches that characterised his 2013 LP 'This Is Always Where You've Lived', Ryan Martin instead guides us through vast interior topographies and nerve-damaged ambiences that comfort and deceive like memory itself.

OSSIA - RED X

The debut release on 12-inch from Young Echo member Ossia. On offer are 10 unyielding minutes of noise-strafed, rootical techno, backed with two more abstract, uncanny studies in reverb and delay.

MOIN - MURPHY

Following their 2012 split 7-inch with Pete Swanson on Blackest Ever Black's Confessions sub-label, the furtive Moin deliver their debut proper, a splendid three-track 12-inch.

RAIME - QUARTER TURNS OVER A LIVING LINE

The gothic and industrial signifiers in their music remain, but more submerged and oblique than ever - no less pronounced as influences than jungle's rhythmic dynamism and doom metal's oppressive weight or aspects of techno, modern composition and dub. This is the first ... read more »
