Samba legend Elza Soares, as featured on Gilles Peterson's 'Sonzeira: Brasil Bam Bam Bam' project, covers Jorge Ben's classic 'Mas Que Nada'. Tougher drums and a more jazzy tone on this version make this one for the dancefloor. She is also famous for marrying the great Brazilian footballer Garrincha, who some rate as better than Pele. Originally featured on her 'Samba's & Mais Samba's' LP on Odeon from 1970. Little is known about Elizabeth. She was apparently nicknamed Gatinha do Mato (loosely translated as Jungle Kitten.). She was involved in the Jovem Guarda movement. Mr. Bongo found this one at one of their favourite, now defunct, spots called Tony's Hits in Sao Paulo. The record was originally released on 7" on RGE in 1970.
