Stax had the MG's, Motown had the Funk Brothers and Fame had The Fame Gang. The latter was a crack Alabama studio outfit that provided the necessary backing for hundreds of essential soul and pop records made at the Fame studio in the late 1960's and early 1970s. As with the MGs, the players took advantage of studio downtime to lay down their own off-the-cuff funky jams, several of which developed into items strong enough to release.
'Grits & Gravy-The Best Of The Fame Gang' gathers the cream of these recordings in a scintillating stew of soulful grooves.
