In between the Gories' 1992 breakup and their soft return in 2009, Danny Kroha fronted Danny & The Darleans (amongst other projects), centering around his feral howls and masterful guitar clanging. 'Bug Out', their sophomore album, refines some of the savage bombast of The Gories while ditching almost all of the glam camp of Kroha's other long-running act, the Demolition Doll Rods. This is apocalyptic party rock from a trio of Detroit shadow dwellers! The good times are never too far from the hard times over the course of this mono masterpiece.

Also available: BUG OUT (CD).

Green Bay, Wisconsin's Mystery Girls were mere teenagers when they started out. Now in their early/mid-20s, the boys (er, Girls) have delivered their most cohesive work yet on their third album, Incontinopia. It's unclear what Incontinopia means but it's a good bet that ... read more »

OBLIVIANS - DESPERATION

Their first new record since '97 offers 14 scorching tracks of soulful punk-garage-blues trash rock, informed in equal parts by '50s rock 'n' roll, '60s garage rock, Memphis soul, Delta blues and Killed By Death-style punk. There's even a Cajun Zydeco cover here!

DIRTBOMBS - HORNDOG FEST

Debut album by THE DIRTBOMBS, fronted by former GORIES and BLACKTOP member Mick Collins, playing very brutal hardcore-punk and psycho-garage.

DUM DUM BOYS (NZL) - LET THERE BE NOISE

Often obscured by the ascent of Flying Nun's legendary roster is New Zealand's late 1970s/early 1980s punk scene. Based in Auckland, a cadre of acts influenced by The Ramones and Stooges briefly thrived. 'Let There Be Noise', the 1981 album from the Dum Dum Boys also ... read more »

FEEDTIME - GAS

The classic line-up of this influential cult Australian '80s blues-noise band returns with the 2017 album 'Gas'.

BLACK LIPS - LET IT BLOOM

Higher price! While still skuzzy and raw, this LP contains their catchiest and most melodic moments to date. If Royal Trux had listened to the Troggs instead of the Rolling Stones, they might sound like this (though the album does sound quite Stonesy at times). "The ... read more »
