This is Carla dal Forno's debut solo-album, following her time in cult Melbourne group Mole House. Her voice, an extraordinary
instrument, sounds both disarmingly conversational and
glacially detached. It has something of the bedsit urbanity of
Anna Domino, Marine Girls, Antena, or Helen Johnstone - stoned
and deadpan -, but it can also summon a gothic intensity that
Nico or Kendra Smith would approve of.

Also available: YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE (LP).

DAL FORNO, CARLA - THE GARDEN

DAL FORNO, CARLA - THE GARDEN

These four obliquely confessional dispatches from the edge zones of feeling mark both a refinement of Carla's dub-damaged, inward-looking bedsit pop (as heard on her 2016 debut album 'You Know What It's Like) and an impressive evolutionary leap.

FINGERS - HIDE BEFORE DINNER

Deeply drugged, synth-daubed death-folk and DIY electronics. The music is acutely psychedelic, inscrutable but emotional, sunken but prone to soaring, and even reveals flashes of horror. Think Nico meets Dome or Alison Statton wandering The Pickle Factory after dark... If ... read more »

TROPIC OF CANCER - RESTLESS IDYLLS

Restless Idylls is the first full length album from Tropic of Cancer, the solo project of Los Angeles-based Camella Lobo. A forced retreat into private, precious idylls of longing, faith, mystery, even misery. The urgent motorik of lead single 'More Alone' is perhaps a ... read more »

RASPBERRY BULBS - DEFORMED WORSHIP

Stomping, vicious and unrelenting, here are nine songs in thirty minutes. NY-based Raspberry Bulbs defies the constraints of classification but is often mistakenly labelled as a black metal band. It is not a black metal band. Raspberry Bulbs has grown from the solo project ... read more »

CUT HANDS - DAMBALLAH 58

'Damballah 58' is the monstrous sequel to 2012's deadly 'Black Mamba' 12-inch. This time the title-track's diabolically addictive voudou rhythms insinuate deeply before uncoiling convulsively into an irrevocable reclamation of the consciousness. The four tracks are ... read more »
