Reissue of an exceptional album of improvisations, recorded when percussionist Charles K. Noyes was lured to the Bay Area in the summer of 1979 by Henry Kaiser. Noyes and Owen Maercks had played regularly as a duo when Owen was still based in Worcester, MA. 'Free Mammals' has long been a notoriously scarce document in the history of the West Coast's free music scene of the late '70s. And the album (nominally released on Owen's Visible label, although everything was handled by Charles) almost always sounded as though it had been pressed onto concrete.

VIDEO NASTIES (USA) - VIDEO NASTIES

SORE EROS - SORE EROS (2LP)

The rural psych-masters return with their sizzling 2020 delivery. The DOUBLE-LP features left-coast canyon-hugging surf-pop, cheese steak-powered garage-volk readymades and some Bobb Trimlesque moments for good measure.

PLANTS OF THE BIBLE - PLANTS OF THE BIBLE

Emerging from a Western Massachusetts bedroom, this odd pop-duo releases an album that's driven by an array of cheap keyboards and influences ranging from La Boheme to Fabio Frizzi to Justin Bieber...

DURETTE, LIZ - DELIGHT

This very whacked outing from Baltimore keyboard genius Liz Durette was all done on keyboards, but at times it sounds like insane calliope music for wicked children with a taste for that old waltz beat. This is truly stunning music!

JOYNES, C. -& THE FURLONG BRAY- - BORAMETZ TREE

'The Borametz Tree' sees British folk guitarist Chris Joynes being joined by members of the Dead Rat Orchestra and fellow guitarists Nick Jonah Davids and Cam Deas. This instrumental album is a.o. influenced by the English folkrock acts of the early-mid '70s s.a. Trees, ... read more »

MEADOW HOUSE - THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING

Created with homemade instruments, the tracks presented on this LP from Dan Wilson's Meadow House usually are angst-ridden affairs that sound extremely bleak.
