A pop star who turned his back to show business to become an independent artist, steered by the revolutionary ideas in 1960's France; these are the outlines of Henri Salvador's unusual musical career. It made him into a star then led him to entirely dissociate from the record industry, preferring to compose music in his living room. At the age of 50, Salvador starts experimenting with synths and drum machines, multi-track recorders and altered voice collages. Salvador has had a time span of seventy years of creating music, producing some thousand tracks in all kinds of styles. Sometimes associated to ye-ye singers, he's also known to have brought rock to France in 1956, with Boris Vian. In the course of time, he would become a multi-talented artist: jazzman, crooner, entertainer, composer, guitar player and childrens' songs singer. Although his career almost faded into obscurity in the 1980's and 1990's, he made a brief comback in the 2000's, before Salvador passed away in 2008. This compilation brings together a number of tracks from 1969 to 1978, representing just a short era from his impressive career. Including extensive liner notes and download code.

Also available: HOMME STUDIO (CD).

FOREVER PAVOT - RHAPSODE

FOREVER PAVOT - RHAPSODE

So there is a new tenant in the Jean-Claude Vannier residence. The discreet type, but rather noisy. Fuzz guitars, wild farfisa, bass lines mixed well ahead in the Burgalat tradition, flutes playing, horse cavalcades on Miguel El Salam, 'Rhapsode' is such a huge indoor ... read more »

CRASH NORMAL - YOUR BODY GOT A LAND

French post-punk with serious angular riffage, raging synths that cut like razorblades and pop hooks to bang your head to. Between garage-punk and electro trash. Crash Normal is a duo. These guys drop their sound of rusty nails that hit the audience like rain. Echos and ... read more »

PLEASURE PRINCIPLE - PLEASURE PRINCIPLE

After recording a lot, without any constraints of format or expectations, Pleasure Principle created music which oscillates, between synthetic krautrock, dancehall lo-fi, Manchester sound recorded with toys, rock like Velvet and Memphis rap for children. And between Les ... read more »

CHOCOLAT - TSS TSS

In 2006, Jimmy Hunt (then a proverbial punk-troubadour usually found in bars) and Ysael Pepin (bassist for Demons Claws) started to jam here and there in one of the rooms of an apartment located above the late Zoobizarre in Montreal. Brian, Martin, and Dale eventually ... read more »

INTELLIGENCE - CREPUSCULE WITH PAC-MAN

Lars Finberg, the lo-fi dandy of West Seattle behind the band INTELLIGENCE, locked his front door and pressed the record button on his favorite eight-track machine and made 12 new songs that could be either ecclesiastic alien probes, Hank Williams going electro-clash, or ... read more »
