Kinks

Live On Beat Club

The Kinks formed in 1964 and quickly became known for their distinctive sound and songwriting style. Led by singer and songwriter Ray Davies, the band went on to release a string of hits throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, including 'You Really Got Me,' 'All Day And All Of The Night,' and 'Lola.' By 1972 The Kinks were spending more time in America, their 1965 ban having ended. Live performance remained a priority for The Kinks with Ray Davis telling the in Melody Maker: "I think the people who have seen us play once or twice understand us more. We wouldn't have made it in the first place if we hadn't gone literally all around England for a year. We played every week in a residency in Manchester and built up a great following there. If I play badly somewhere I feel ashamed afterwards." They also played a short tour of Europe part of which saw them promoting their latest album 'Muswell Hillbillies' on German television. There was nothing for Ray Davis to be ashamed of. Time has not tarnished The Kinks' music nor their performance which shines as brightly today as it did fifty years ago. 'Live On Beat Club' presents The Kinks live in the studio as originally broadcast in 1972. TRACKS: 01. Top Of The Pops 02. You're Looking Fine 03. Lola 04. Muswell Hillbilly 05.
