Reggae Rules Ok! (2cd)

So just what has Britain, the cold European island, got to do with a musical style born in the hot Caribbean island of Jamaica? Lots!! The benefits of the Windrush generation would be quickly felt in more ways than one in Britain with a strong cultural identity and above all, the sweet sounds of calypso and jazz combined; ska!! It took the better half of a decade for the BBC to finally acknowledge the appeal and popularity of black music and even longer to embrace the sound of Jamaica, but by the end of the 1960s, when ska had morphed into reggae through its rock steady predecessor, the doors finally opened for Jamaican artists. By the 1970s, stars of reggae were invited in to perform live for radio broadcast, paving the way for a handful of British, American and Jamaican reggae stars to shine before Bob Marley became a household name. London Calling proudly presents a dynamic set of exclusive and previously unreleased recordings from some of the biggest names in reggae. Broadcast on FM radio in London between 1969 and 1972. Fully restored and professionally remastered original recordings, presented with background notes and timeline photos. All tracks performed live on 'Top Of The Pops.' DISC 1: 01.
